It all started with a friendship bracelet. Travis Kelce attended Taylor Swift’s The Eras
Tour in Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium on July 8, 2023, and attempted to give her a bracelet
with his phone number on it. While the move was unsuccessful at the time, the Chiefs tight end
did make contact with her later on and, as he stated, put the ball in her court and invited her to
one of his football games (more on that in a sec). For those who might not be familiar, Swifties,
as Swift’s fans call themselves, have been making friendship bracelets to trade as they attend
her tour as a tribute to her Midnights song, “You’re On Your Own, Kid.” Celebrities have been
participating in this tradition as well – one of the most notable is evidently Travis Kelce.
This July run-in was the first of many newsworthy events between the two. On
September 24, 2023, Swift was seen in Kansas City at the Chiefs game against the Bears at
Arrowhead Stadium. She was noticeably in the Kelce family’s suite and was seen chatting with
Kelce’s friends and mother, Donna. She was shown on FoxSports three times during that game
for a total of 39 seconds. She chest-bumped friends and screamed as her rumored beau scored
a touchdown. Kelce was even videoed on the field, seemingly saying, “Wow, she’s really here,”
as he glanced up at his suite in disbelief. Kelce was thrilled at Swift’s presence at his game,
stating on his popular New Heights podcast, “Shout out to Taylor for pulling up. … everybody in
the suite had nothing but great things to say about her.” The red and white Chiefs windbreaker
Swift wore at that game sold out the next day and the Chiefs Eras store was reported to be
shipping these jackets around the country. Jumping to Saturday, September 30, 2023 – Kelce
was seen outside Swift’s apartment early in the day, and later that night, Swift had a girls’ night
with her popular posse – including Brittany Mahomes, wife to KC Chiefs quarterback Patrick
Mahomes. On October 1, 2023, it was reported that Kelce was seen leaving Swift’s NYC
apartment prior to his game against the Jets that afternoon. Swift attended his game once again
that afternoon, this time alongside her famous friends, including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds,
Sophie Turner, Hugh Jackman, Brittany Mahomes, and plenty of others. Swift was seen
continuously chatting with Donna once again and cheered as the Chiefs won their game.
After this series of events, comedians got in on the fun when Swift wasn’t in attendance
at the Chiefs game against the Vikings on October 8, 2023. Jimmy Fallon, on his popular show
The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, joked about how Swift even makes headlines when she’s
not present somewhere. He went on to describe how her presence is so impactful and how
announcers kept talking about Swift even when she’s not at games.
Most recently, on October 11, 2023, it was stated by an anonymous source that Travis
Kelce, while unable to attend Swift’s Eras Movie premiere in LA due to a game the next day,
sent Swift a gushy note with pricey flowers to congratulate her on the release of her
highly-awaited film. Her film is now expected to gross $150 to $200 million on its opening
weekend, surpassing other highly-anticipated films of 2023 such as Barbie and Oppenheimer.
I, for one, can’t wait to keep following the Swelce story as it progresses. My attention will
be focused on Kelce’s next few games – will Swift be in attendance?! We will have to see.
