2023 VMAs Overview

Award season is officially back in full swing as the Video Music Awards, also known as the VMAs, aired on September 12th, 2023, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The ceremony was hosted by Nicki Minaj, making it her second year in a row hosting the event. Special guests including Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and Ice Spice racked up moonmans (the VMA award statues) in various categories. Outstanding performances by Shakira, Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Demi Lovato, and Renee Rapp were featured throughout the 3-hour show. Shakira was honored with the VMA Vanguard Award, a unique award granted to an artist who has made substantial and outstanding contributions to the music industry, music videos, and pop culture as a whole.
