Golden Globes 2023 Recap

Occurring annually in January, the Golden Globes is a prestigious award given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. On Tuesday, January 10th, 2023, the HFPA held the 80th annual Golden Globes and gave away plenty of awards (going to both expected and unexpected winning film fellows), from best actor/actress to best director. Hosted at the Beverly Hilton and aired live on NBC and Peacock that night, the Golden Globes was hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, a popular standup comedian. In 2022, the Golden Globes did not air since the nominations did not have a single person of color – causing outrage across the globe. NBC’s statement in May 2021 said, “Change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.” Now in 2023, the Golden Globes did air and was a major win for many people, including people of color. Big wins for Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Angela Bassett, Ke Huy Quan, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Coolidge, Steven Speilberg, Michelle Yeoh, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Guillermo del Toro were included this year.
