Met Gala 2021

The Metropolitan Museum, also known as The Met, located in New York is famous for its iconic event of Vogue’s Met Gala. Starting in 1946, the Met Gala is a fashion fundraising event benefiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute that hosts one of the most well-known events of the year. Unfortunately, last year’s gala was cancelled, and the trend #metgalachallenge was in the works to comfort celebrities and fans as a distraction that there wasn’t a fashion event to attend. Celebrities posted old pictures of themselves on the red carpet reminiscing of their time at the Met Gala. They would then tag #metgalachallenge, and currently, under the hashtag, over 5000+ posts can be found. However, this year’s Met Gala is back in full swing and the A-List stars are not holding back with their creativity and vision in fashion.

Each year the Gala has a celebrity panel of co-chairs spreading and encouraging the youth to get involved with the arts. This year was the prime example of that – the four co-chairs of the 2021 Met Gala were actor Timothee Chalamet, singer/songwriter Billie Eilish, poet Amanda Gorman, and tennis player Naomi Osaka.

America: A Lexicon of Fashion was the theme for the 2021 Met Gala–this meant that the main focus in the Art’s Costume Institute was the organizing principle of a patchwork quilt, which established a modern take on American fashion based on its expressive qualities that show America’s fashion value: fashion has the ability to change and shape lives through its personal connection to us all.
