a step outside is all it takes
for Winter to hold you prisoner
i glance back into my house because
the light and warmth from within is
tempting but not more than a Winter’s breath
the biting gale sweeps me into the winter wonderland
the ground blanketed with white crystals
begging me to join them on the ground
i jump into a mound of fresh snow and
move my limbs back and forth
until an angel’s imprint is left
i stand up to marvel at my work for a few seconds
until the angel is covered with a fresh sheet of snow
i grasp my coat ever so tightly as the wind continues
to blow
my face turns a rosy pink as Winter bites at my face
i look down at my hands and they start to turn a sickly white
i try to head back to my house but not before Winter holds me captive
my legs have joined my arms in becoming frozen and
as hard as i might try, i cannot move for my body has fallen
victim to Winter’s merciless touch
